Description
This plate was shown in the exhibition, “Sawunggaling, from Hardjono Go Tik Swan to Iwan Tirta” in the Museum Textile Jakarta in 2011. The design is Sawunggaling, done in the style of batik of Go Tik Swan (Panembahan Hardjonagoro) that shows the fight between two roosters in the traditional Balinese cock fights (when it is nearing the planting season) which has the meaning that the blood that is spilled to the earth will bring prosperity and abundance. Jigger, hand trimmed and hand drawn with Sgraffito technique (a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip-on ceramics before firing.)
